A city to enjoy

Oviedo is a human-scale city where corners full of history can be found and a simple stroll enjoyed along its pedestrian streets that are now a nationwide and international point of reference.

The city has won over space from cars for the enjoyment of its pedestrians.
Hence, the area surrounding the Cathedral of San Salvador, right in the heart of the city, can be seen and enjoyed without the noise and fumes of cars. This is not the only pedestrian area in the city. The entire historic quarter is free of the omnipresence of cars.

The streets known as Calle de Santa Ana y Mon and Tránsito de Santa Bárbara and the Plaza de Trascorrales, Plaza del Ayuntamiento, Plaza del Sol and Plaza de Porlier squares, the latter home to the sculpture that Úrculo dedicated to travellers, are some of the places that must be visited and that you should not leave Oviedo without seeing.

Another of the city's advantages, as the administrative capital of Asturias, is its strategic location in the centre of the region. Such diverse natural settings as the beaches of the Cantabrian Sea with their seaside villas and cliffs, the Picos de Europa mountain range or the forests on the foothills of the Cantábrico mountain chain with such famous places as the parks of Somiedo, Muniellos and Redes can be reached from Oviedo in a matter of minutes.
